Our Positive Living Volunteers support families in Hampshire who are experiencing challenging situations in their lives to achieve agreed goals and move forwards as a stronger family unit.

Volunteers work alongside Family Support Workers (FSW) and independently with the family they are supporting. Volunteers offer practical solutions to build on the family’s existing strengths in order to deliver on an agreed ‘family plan’.

There are various ways as a volunteer you can help vulnerable people to take steps to positive living and improve their lives such as:

  • Helping parents to complete forms
  • Attending appointments with them
  • Building on parenting skills
  • Helping them work towards employment or interests in training or education
  • Taking part in tasks such as shopping and trips out
  • Improving confidence and skills using ICT

What are family’s looking for?

This role is perfect for someone who is compassionate and enthusiastic about helping adults and children who will be experiencing, or have experienced, challenging or difficult things in their lives.

An awareness or knowledge of mental health issues whilst maintaining a non-judgmental approach would be useful for the role.

If you can turn empathy and understanding into motivation and positive action,
this is just as important as skills and experience.

Practical Considerations:

A full enhanced DBS check will be required as you will be interacting on a one-to-one basis with vulnerable adults and children – we will complete this for you and it is free. You will also be required to provide two referees (cannot be related to you). You will be provided with a full volunteer induction and access to additional training as appropriate. You will receive regular support and mentoring from a Family Support Worker.

The families you will support will need you to help provide consistency and reliability in their lives in order to achieve their goals, so you’ll need to be able to dedicate regular support, ideally at least one day per week.
