Somerset County Council logoWorking in Partnership with Somerset County Council our volunteers play a significant role in supporting its services. Our volunteers support existing provision and help improve the lives of individuals across the County through a range of practical activities. We also support our volunteers to enhance their own well-being, health, and in the development of their personal skills and knowledge.

Over the next year You Can Do intends to increase the number of volunteers working with the Council and support its services as they continue to improve the quality of life for thousands of individuals. We also intend to enable our volunteers to achieve their own personal goals and gain the satisfaction that volunteering has to offer.

Adult Social Care Volunteers

Our volunteers work with Adult Social Care Teams or in the community in a support role.  As a volunteer you would be helping people in their own homes to overcome short-term barriers that prevent them from the leading fulfilling lives.

Transporting Somerset

We have an amazing team of volunteer drivers who carried out over 88,000 journeys last year and covered over one million miles. By using your ability to drive you’d be helping our team connect even more people with essential services and improve the lives of many of the county’s most disadvantaged.

Childrens' Services

As a Children’s Services volunteer you will be working alongside professionals helping children and young people develop their full potential, achieve at school, and aid their transition into adulthood.

Summer Reading Challenge

Every year the Summer Reading Challenge aims to encourage children to read six books during the long summer holiday and we’d really like you to become part of this initiative by  volunteering in one of Somerset’s libraries.
